Kulon Progo Regency is one of the districts from five districts in Yogyakarta province, located in the west. Limits Kulon Progo Regency in the east of Bantul and Sleman regency, on the western side is bordered by Purworejo regency, Central Java Province, in the north bordering the District of Magelang, Central Java Province and in the south bordering the Indian Ocean.
Kulon Progo Regency has topography varying with the altitude between 0000-1000 meters above sea level, which is divided into three areas include:
a. Northern Section
An upland / hilly Menoreh with altitude between 500 1000 meters above sea level, covering Sub Girimulyo, Kokap, Kalibawang and Samigaluh. This region is the use of land set aside as conservation farming area and is an area prone to landslides.
b. Middle Section
Is a hilly area with altitude of between 100 500 m above sea level, covering Sub Nanggulan, Sentolo, loving, and most Lendah, areas with slopes between two 15%, classified as a transition choppy and wavy plains and hills.
c. Southern Section
Is lowland with an altitude of 0100 meters above sea level, covering Sub Temon, Wates, monkey bars, strain, and some Lendah. Based on the slope, has a slope of 0 2%, an area of 24.9 km along the coast, when the rainy season is flood-prone areas.
The total area of Kulon Progo Regency is 58627.54 hectares, is administratively divided into 12 districts covering 88 villages and 930 hamlets. Use of land in Kulon Progo Regency, including rice 10732.04 ha (18.30%); moor 7145.42 ha (12.19%); mixed garden 31131.81 ha (53.20%); the township area of 3337.73 ha (5.69%); 1025 hectares of forest (1.75%); plantation 486 ha (0.80%); 1225 badlands Ha (2.09%); reservoir 197 ha (0.34%); ponds 50 ha (0.09%); and other land area of 3315 hectares (5.65%).
Kulon Progo Regency crossed by two (2) transportation infrastructure that is a national crossings on the island of Java, namely the National road along the 28.57 km and the Railway line along approximately 25 km. Almost every major territory in Kulon Progo Regency is accessible by using land transportation.
Rainfall in Kulon Progo average per year to reach 2150 mm, with an average of 106 days of rainy days per year or 9 days per month with the highest rainfall in January and lowest in August. Lowest temperature of approximately 24.2 ° C (July) and the highest 25.4 ° C (April), with humidity as low as 78.6% (August), and the highest 85.9% (January). springs are self managed by the District and the Village, which was then distributed by gravity to the piping system.
Kulon Progo Regency is located between Hill and the Indian Ocean passed Menoreh Progo River on the east and the River Bogowonto and Glagah River in west-central section. The rivers with water flowing throughout the year in the Kabupaten Kulon Progo is helpful in maintaining the surface condition of ground water.
The existence of Sermo reservoir in District Kokap supported by the presence of the irrigation network is spread in almost all districts, shows the seriousness of the Government of Kulon Progo Regency to increase agricultural production and fisheries in the area of Kulon Progo Regency.
